Deep Tissue Massage addresses deeper layers of muscle tissue. This focused work aims to release chronic patterns of tension in the body, using slow glides and deep finger pressure on contracted areas, working either along or perpendicular to the fibers of the muscles, tendons and fascia. Deep Tissue massage is used to reduce or realign scar tissue; bring healthy blood flow back to painful, ischemic areas in muscles; and reduce adhesions between muscles and surrounding structures. While Deep Tissue massage often requires very firm pressure, it should never hurt. Often Swedish massage strokes will be used to warm tissues to prepare them to receive deep tissue work, and pressure is adjusted to stay within a client's comfort zone.
